Continental Devera

This full color land forms / usage map shows the singular Deveran continental landmass.  Nearly all the action in the series takes place on westernmost fourth of the continent.  Devera is roughly the size of North America, stretching roughly 5340 kilometers ( 3318 miles) from east to west and 4078 kilometers (2534 miles) from north to south. Permanent snow cap is white.  Mountains are dark brown with hill country represented as light brown. Pink is desert. Yellow is short grass savannah, while yellow / green is tall grass prairie. Lighter green areas are scrub and parkland biomes, while the olive color represents tundra.

Imperium Azgar

Occupying the southwestern region of continental Devera, the land of the Azgar was fertile and benefited from an extensive river system that provided a reliable water source across the broad, flat plains of the nation's northwest.  The land near the coast had been covered in scrub forest that drifted into savannah further east.  Clearing farmland and cutting trees for fuel changed the climate over time. Much of the land under Azgar control is now desert.

Sacred Illithia

This region is entirely surrounded by mountains, which exert a significant impact on local climates.  In the southern areas, Illithia is quite dry, but watered by an extensive system of streams which drain snowfall from the towering mountain ridges.  This water fills the beautiful Mari Halinnea, a deep, inland sea which produces lake-effect rainfall and provides habitat for abundant fish and waterfowl. This region served as the primary agricultural engine for the Lithian people.  Further north, the climate becomes significantly wetter, supporting vast rain forests that reach toward the steep cordilleras that guard Illithia's northern boundary.

El Reino del Kameron

This vast landscape benefits from the most extensive river system on Devera. Warm, wet air from Devera's huge ocean sweeps across the broad, flat plains in the south, dumping rain before ascending the heights of the southern Angelgate cordillera. The southern reaches of Kameron contain the best conditions for growing rice anywhere on the continent. These warm air currents tend to curl to the northwest, over the Bay of Maridom, leaving the high plateau of the northeast region dry, while watering the western and northern reaches of the country, where parkland forests dominate the rolling hill country.

The Republic of Tamaria

Tamaria is a high altitude landscape dominated by massive mountain ranges and extensive ice fields. Much of it would be uninhabitable were it not for two very large and extremely deep lakes that moderate the climate around their shorelines. The terrain is so steep, that all the major rivers flowing into the lakes and the Angry Bear / Desolation systems provide tremendous hydroelectric power for industry, but place significant limits on Tamarian agriculture. For this reason, the nation is utterly dependent on Kameron for the bulk of its food. The Angry Bear and Desolation rivers are broad and deep enough to be navigable by large vessels, which ply their waters in vigorous trade. On the eastern side of the country (not pictured), a small population clings to the foothills verging the Saradon plateau. Ranching is the most common lifestyle along the Saradon border.

Additional Maps

Large Milieu, Political

This map shows the various nations on the western part of the continent. Most of the story takes place within this territory, though there are references to places like Abelscinnia, which is located to the east, across the Saradon Plateau.

Tamaria and Northern Kameron

It's a little hard to read at reduced size and resolution, but nearly all of the places in the novels can be found on this map.

Superstition Mesa

This is a greyscale map of the mysterious place where Algernon built a home for Kira.  The Stone House that becomes to important to Jhiran Vell in Dreams and Missions is located at the place labeled "Lookout Point." It's an abandoned fort that used to protect the city from giants before the Tamarian government fortified Marvic's walls with artillery. Further southeast, across the gorge where Wounded Heart Creek flows, is Marvic's palace complex.

La Casa del Matados

Originally, devout Kamerese built this fortified complex to honor their ancestors. The building had been abandoned for many decades as the local population dwindled, due to persistent drought. El Caudillo seized the structure during the Kamerese Civil War and used it as his headquarters. His forces brought important prisoners here for torment and execution, including a group of Tamarian medical workers captured in an attack against the Tamarian Expeditionary Force.
